Palm Sunday Pancakes!

PALM SUNDAY PANCAKES

Support the Journey Youth Group and plan to eat breakfast at the church Sunday, April 14, serving from 7:30 AM – 12:30 PM. Free-will donations support the activities and trips of our Youth Group, making ministry activities, trips and evangelism training more affordable for everyone.

The regular coffee shop will not be open, but percolator coffee will be available with the breakfast. Feel free to bring your own to-go cup to enjoy coffee in the services. 🙂

This meal will also be the “Open Table” of the month.  If you wish to connect with others who call Cedar Hills home, this is a great event to attend.

175 Sub-Success!

Thank you to everyone who purchased a sub sandwich for the annual Super Bowl Sub fundraiser.  The Journey youth and leaders assembled 175 subs sandwiches.

“Last Sunday, 20 students and leaders from Youth Ministry made over 175 subs, which were sold out within minutes! Thank you for your constant support of the student ministry!” ~ Jeremy Van Genderen

This year we are also adding the homemade bread bake-off competition to our event.  If you want to enter a chili or bread into the competition please contact Jeremy by Friday, Dec. 7.  Entries should make either a double batch of chili or 2-3 loaves of bread.  If you are not able to make something, please join us after the 2nd service and vote for your favorite. This is a fundraiser for our youth program so you will vote by putting cash into the bucket of your favorite chili or bread. Bring cash!

Journey – October 2018 Update

Annual Report – Special Edition

2018 was a great year for Journey Student Ministry.  Here are just some highlights.

  • Skyzone Outreach night that had nearly 100 students attend and hear the gospel.
  • Power Connection weekend in Kansas that saw our junior high students grow in a deeper understanding of integrity.
  • CSI: Cedar Rapids – A week of mission work in Cedar Rapids that our Sr. High group engaged in with Prayer, Service and Evangelism.
  • 50 students attended our Fall Kick-Off and heard what God is doing in our community.
  • We are currently planning for the 7th annual Fall Retreat in November called To Da Max!

In 2019, we are happy to join the church mission in Transforming the Corridor. We will continue to do this through prayer and gospel conversations. Over the next year we are going to focus on how Paul encouraged the local churches to transform their communities by studying the books of Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians and Colossians.

Our prayer, as always, is to see students grow in their faith and also experience other students come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Please join with me in prayer for what God has in store for Journey this year!

Journey – October 2018

What a great start to the year we have had a Journey. On our kick-off night in August we had nearly 50 students show up to have fun and hear about Journey. Each week we will be walking through different books of the Bible. Before Christmas, we will engage with Galatians and James and after Christmas we are going to dive into Ephesians, Philippians and Colossians. If you have a student in 6th-12th Grade, please make sure they join us on Sundays from 5:30-7 PM.

There are two big events to get on your calendar to that your students are sure to be there:

#1. Dare2Share Live
Sat, Oct 13, 11 AM-6:30 PM at Faith Bible Church in CR. This annual event consists of speakers, worship, and a nationwide canned food drive. The purpose is to train us to be able to talk to others about our faith. The cost is $20 and is open to all students 6th-12th Grade and their friends.

#2. Fall Retreat
Nov 16-18 at Sunstream Retreat Center in Ogden is our 7th annual fall retreat. This weekend is a great time of growing deeper in our faith and growing closer together. We will have an inspiring speaker, meaningful worship, and an opportunity to engage in games like glow-in-the-dark dodgeball, rock-climbing wall, and ziplines. The cost is $60 and more info coming soon.

Journey – May 2018 Update

I can’t believe another school year is coming to a close. We will be honoring our seniors on May 20 at Journey Youth Group. This will be a night to celebrate who they are and who God created them to be. On May 20 we will also be welcoming the upcoming 6th graders. That means if you are in 5th grade now, we want to see you and your parents at 5 PM on May 20. During this time, you will be introduced to Journey and we will have pizza together. Please RSVP by May 13 so I can get enough pizza.

On another note of celebration we had over 80 people join us for our SkyZone night. It was a great night of connection and formation for our group. I also want to say thank you to our four high school leaders who shared what God has been doing in their lives recently. The Gospel was preached and we believe that lives were changed with the truth of Jesus Christ.

Journey April 2018 Update

In Romans we read, “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to  them?”

On April 15 we will be hosting our 2nd annual outreach night at Skyzone for the youth group. During this evening, we are encouraging our kids to invite their friends and those they know that need to hear the truth of Jesus. The whole night is financially covered, so every student gets in free for 2 hours of jumping and pizza. Halfway through the night we have students share what God is doing in their lives and then they invite the students to respond to the truth of Jesus Christ as their Savior. Please pray for the Holy Spirit to move and for lives will be transformed!!
