About the Weekend to Remember ®
Remember how captivating it was when you first fell in love with your spouse? Every moment was special. As real life takes over, that memory can grow less vivid, and you might not feel like the center of their world as often. That’s where the Weekend to Remember® marriage retreat from FamilyLife comes in.
The two-and-a-half day romantic weekend getaway is a time to be together as a couple to invest in and strengthen the foundation of your marriage, no matter how firm or fragile it is. By getting away from the distractions of life, you can fortify your most important relationship and work toward building wonderful memories together, for decades to come.
The Weekend to Remember marriage retreat is not a large group counseling session or small group discussion. You won’t be asked to share intimate details of your relationship with anyone.
You will listen to engaging talks from marriage experts , then take private time alone with your spouse to work on the concepts you studied. When you leave, you will have an assortment of powerful, Christ-centered communication tools to use for years to come.
Learn how to:
- Address issues as they arise, rather than letting resentments fester
- Express feelings positively, so your partner remains engaged in the discussion
- Resolve conflict in healthy, biblical ways
- Maintain a vital sexual connection with one another
- Forgive one another freely and completely
- Increase your commitment to your marriage, resulting in deeper intimacy
We want you to leave your marriage retreat with encouragement, hope, and practical tools to build and grow your relationship. That’s why we call this a Weekend to Remember. Register today and use our group code: CedarHillsCommunity

We’re so excited to announce our new programming, called Family Adventure. Its goal is to equip families to be modelers of a gospel-centered life. The event will be held on the 4th Sunday of every month, 5:30pm-7pm with dinner 5:30pm-6pm. The night will be filled with Jesus, fun and fellowship!
Family discipleship is of the utmost importance to us, and we hope and desire that every child would be accompanied by a parent, guardian or adult family member. Family Adventure is about having an experience that children and adults alike can share in together. We hope to see you there! Register.
We are excited to announce a new parenting community!
All parents are invited Sunday, May 20 at 9:45 AM to room 135 to connect and ignite this new group. Open to anyone with kids ages infant to elementary, this group will be a fun way to get to know others going through the early-parenting life stage. This is a community that will continue to meet throughout the years, thus allowing friendships to grow. As with most relationships, the real connections will likely happen outside of our Sunday meeting.
In June and July, this group will not meet at the church building (since there is no summer childcare/Sunday school). But, we will hold activities outside of church, such as a picnic, to get to know each other. We hope to initiate “Dinner 6” for the month of June. This is an event where 3 couples or 6 individuals are paired up and decide on a time to get together. This is an excellent way to start to get to know other parents in the church.
For the month of July, we will be meeting at the Ungs house (near the church) for a morning brunch-potluck on July 22nd. Time is yet to be decided.
We will discuss all this and start to get to know each other at our very first meeting on May 20th.
We wish you all a delightful summer.
For more info about the group, contact Karl or Lindsey Ungs. We’ve begun a group in CCB to use for group communication. To be added to the CCB group, please let Jennifer Wagaman in the church office know you would like to be added. This is likely how we will notify you of events.
Lead. (Family Discipleship Conference)
Fri, Jun 1, 2018 6:00p – 8:00p
On June 1st from 6-8p, you are invited to come and learn more about what family discipleship means, how we can live it out, and partake in discussions with other parents! Childcare will be provided.
Our Children and Family Ministry Director, Kyle French, will open the night with a brief overview of what the Bible teaches and how it values family discipleship. Doing so will help us to have a foundation for application as we seek to shape and enrich our understanding of what family discipleship is and how it can be a church-wide endeavor.
For the remainder of the night, Mark Forstrom from New Covenant Bible Church here in Cedar Rapids, has committed to speak with us about practical ways in which family discipleship can be done well. For those who don’t know Mark, he has been ministering at New Covenant since 1992. And after this summer, Mark will be stepping away from his current role and will begin to use his experiences and gifting in Christian counseling. Mark loves creating environments where families can grow in their faith. He is also passionate about how we should be developing healthy relationships with God and with others. We hope you’ll be able to join us as we look deeper and invest greater into modeling family discipleship!

Kyle French, his wife Alisse, and their daughter Hadley will be coming in February. Kyle will begin his role as Director of Family and Children’s Ministries. He will be responsible for the oversight of ministry to families with children, birth through 5th grade. His primary roles will be to encourage and empower parents in their call to disciple their children and to equip others to intentionally focus on developing children into life-long followers of Jesus. (Make disciples who make disciples in the everyday stuff of life. ~Matthew 28:18-20).
Picture Kyle’s role as more of a school principle rather than a classroom teacher. He will give oversight, encouragement, and training to help families carry out the vital role of shaping the faith of their children. His top priority will be equipping parents and other adults to be disciple-makers.
Please welcome Kyle, Alisse, and Hadley!
