As the Waters

As The Waters

Habakkuk 2:14 says, “For as the waters fill the sea, the earth will be filled with an awareness of the glory of the LORD.“ As image bearers of Christ, we are like little ‘glory’ carriers—where we walk, where we live
and where we work, we are ambassadors of Christ to the world. Wherever we are every day, there is God, ready to move and make a difference.

Did you know your light shined so brightly? Did you know we get to participate in the promise of Habakkuk 2:14, that the earth will be filled with an awareness of God’s glory?

Lord, that You would saturate our souls with an awareness of Your continual presence that we
may saturate the world!

As the Waters
By Leah Carolan
As Your glory reigned over creation
So my heart longs to be reigned by You
As Your Spirit danced with the waters
So my Spirit longs to dance with You
Awaken my heart to this intimacy
Let this wild love run so freely
As the waters cover the sea
Let my heart be filled
With the knowledge of the Glory of God
As the waters cover the sea
Let my heart be filled
With the knowledge of Your Glory
Let Your glory fall like rain (awaken my heart)
Let Your glory fall like rain
That’s pouring down into my heart

Just a song… and a prayer

Dwell in Me

By Robert D. Wells; © 1995 Tennessee Music & Printing Company (Admin. by Music Services, Inc.) CCLI License # 648382

In the center of my heart
there is a place
that’s reserved for Christ,
the Savior,
Lord of grace.
There is no other master
worthy of this place.
Rule my life,
reign in my heart,
dwell in me.
Dwell in me.
Dwell in me.
Let my heart be Your throne room.
Dwell in me.
In prayer and praise and service
I give myself to Thee,
God of Heaven,
Lord of my life.
Dwell in me.
Other interests often cloud
my mind and days,
cares of life come crashing
through in many ways.
But Lord, within my heart,
I hold You close always.
Now and ever,
You are master.
Dwell in me.

As we continue in this season of dwelling in the Word, may Jesus come and dwell in each one of us as Savior, Lord and Master. There truly is none other worthy of our hearts.

Marked.

Marked.

Marked.

When we first came up with the title for this Lenten series I was especially moved by the word, “Marked”. Enough that I’ve been lingering on it for over a month and reflecting on what this could mean. We are each marked with life. The good, the bad,
the ugly. But I think those places where suffering has marked us are the places where God can do the coolest work. Suffering sucks. Don’t get me wrong! But it can produce a harvest of good when God gets involved and we let Him do what He does best.

Have you ever had the moment where you meet someone and they share a part of their story that matches a part of your story—and suddenly the two of you are friends for life because of the suffering you have shared together? That doesn’t happen to me
when I share good stuff. I am bonded with others through the bad stuff. It’s like a deep brotherhood/sisterhood suddenly takes place in a communal suffering narrative.

I think we have the same communal suffering with Jesus. He took on the largest, biggest, baddest, worst imaginable suffering ever. He understands our story. He understands our struggles. We share together in suffering and a brotherhood happens. He
gets it. We are bonded in friendship for life. It is good to be marked.

It is GOOD to be marked.

We enter into the suffering of Christ this season because it is good to be marked. Come, let us draw closer to the heart of God.

Final Worship with Pastor JR

Leaders and staff praying over JR – 1st service

We were blessed to be able to pray over Pastor JR as he joined us for his final services at Cedar Hills. JR has discerned that God is calling him to something new outside the walls of a traditional church setting and we join him in prayer as he presses into God for guidance along the road ahead.

What a beautiful day of love! We were able to shower JR with gifts and letters, celebrating his time at Cedar Hills (and his love for Starbucks coffee) ?.  Do you have pictures to share from the day? Submit them via the church app and we’ll add them to the gallery.

Thank you Pastor JR for your love, leadership and dedication. You are an amazing person and have left a strong and positive mark on our congregation that will last forever. You are in our prayers for discernment of how God wants to use you next. I’m sure it will be amazing.”

“I wish you the best in your future endeavors wherever they might lead you. God is good…all the time!!”

“Thank you for an amazing sermon Sunday. What a blessing you have been to our church! We know the Holy Spirit will guide you into your next exciting adventure. Praying for you as he leads you.”

“I am not a registered member of Cedar Hills, but have been attending off and on for the past 4 years. I want to thank you JR for helping me find a church family again.I had been searching for some time when I heard you speak at a prayer service for my niece who was put on life supports after a major heart attack She was not a member of your church, but you did it for her sister and brother in law . Your passion touched my heart, and made me feel as if perhaps your church was a place where I could feel welcomed despite my imperfections. You are truly a fisherman of all people….you have a way of reeling people back to the Lord. May he go with you on this new journey you are about to begin. And know that you have a lot of people whose lives you have touched that will be praying for you. God bless!”

In case you missed JR’s last sermon on January 28, you can listen online.

Lent: The Road Marked With Suffering

Each year for the season of Lent, we add additional mid-week worship services.  The services begin Wednesday, Feb. 14 on Ash Wednesday and continue until Easter.  A meal is served prior to the services 5:15-6:15, and the services are a short 30 minute reflection 6:30-7pm.  On Ash Wednesday we will receive the traditional mark of ash upon the forehead in the service.

The children’s program, All Stars For Jesus, continues through the season. Families can come and enjoy a meal together before sending their children to All Stars and attending the service. Both All Stars and the service will conclude at the same time.

“Marked with Suffering” – Jesus last words on the cross are our focus this season of Lent. Come, join us for a short reflective service of worship and a message.

The week of Maundy Thursday (March 29), the service will be on Thursday rather than Wednesday.

Identity in Christ

Have you ever had a testimony burning in your heart that you just couldn’t help but share?

I’ve been pondering victory and my identity in Christ a lot lately. I shared a few Sundays ago how for years I would ask God for victory in certain areas of my life and used multiple versions of the same type of prayer for years. “God, help me with this thing!” was the gist of it.

And then it dawned on me that was asking for something that God had already given me! As a follower of Jesus, I have certain rights and blessings already established. I didn’t need to keep asking for them—they are already mine in Jesus! I needed to STAND on them.

So my prayer changed. No longer “God, can I have this thing…” It became “God, I stand on Your Word and declare that I have victory already in Jesus!”. Even when I wasn’t feeling it. That became my prayer. And I continue to pray it until I truly believe it!

When I’m feeling down, I now pray, “I have a glorious hope in Christ Jesus!” whether I feel it or not. When the finances are tight, I praise Jesus for His great provision. Because He has already provided whether I can see it or not.

When I’m tempted, I often will say out loud, “I am victorious in Jesus!” or “I am a victor!” (This is usually me in front of the refrigerator). And yes, I really do say it out loud. Sometimes my kids think I’m nutty. I don’t care. I know who I am! I know my identity! And I won’t let doubt take that from me. I no longer whine before the throne of the Most High God—I commune with Him in all the benefits and joys of being a Beloved Daughter.

Do YOU know who you are in Christ?

Ugly Sweater Sunday

Are we really doing this? You bet we are!

Come Sunday, Dec. 17 wearing your best and ugliest Christmas sweater. Just a little fun with your Cedar Hills family during this Christmas season!

The best Christmas sweaters are often homemade… thing super glue, strings, fuzzy balls.  Be creative.  Google ‘ugly Christmas sweater’ for inspiration.

Stay after the services for a Chili Cook-off – the proceeds will go to the youth group. Contact the office to be a competitor or sign up in the church bulletin.

In dwell, dwell in… What’s the deal?

This Fall, we kick-off the start of a year long commitment to learning about the Bible. While dwelling in the Word, we know that Christ will indwell our hearts. When we dig into the Word, we cannot escape that God will reveal Himself in big ways and fill us with His presence. It will be so worth it!! So dwell in the Word and let the Word dwell in you. Simple, yes?

Any change of habit takes time, commitment and practice. If you’re not used to dwelling in the Word, it’s going to take some change. What do you need to give up to make regular time for the Word? How does your schedule need to be rearranged? And are you serious enough about taking on this new habit that you’re willing to actually make the changes?

I don’t know about you, but I’m HUNGRY. I see within myself the need to make reading and dwelling into the Word a greater priority in my life. I know I often feel spiritually empty because this one component is missing my from spiritual journey.

Even as mature Christians, there is so much more for us to learn in the Word and should not be neglected (preaching to myself!). Let’s do this! Will you join us in the journey? Are you ready to be amazed by what God has to say and what He will reveal to us in the next year? I am! August 20 begins this year long journey to Dwell.
